Days after Aubrey Plaza’s rep confirmed that the actor was expecting her first baby with boyfriend Christopher Abbott, she opened up about being a mommy-to-be. “Well, there’s a baby inside of me,” she said on the upcoming April 20 episode of the “SmartLess” podcast, according to multiple outlets. “Today was a big day. I went to the doctor’s today.” Plaza brought up her pregnancy news after telling hosts Will Arnett, Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes that she had suffered a stroke when she was 20, which she speculated was caused by the birth control she took at the time. Plaza also noted that her dog had an ultrasound the same day. “She had to get an ultrasound on her stomach… And then I got an ultrasound on my stomach, and there is a baby in there,” she said. “It already has a cloak and a little hat. I think it’s gonna come out.” The “Parks and Recreation” star, who was spotted with a baby bump last week while walking her dog in Manhattan, expressed excitement about becoming a mom. “I’ve always wanted to see what that’s all about, you know?” Plaza said. “It just seems so interesting.” Plaza, 41, and Abbott, 40, starred together in the off-Broadway production of “Danny and the Deep Blue Sea,” and the 2020 film “Black Bear.” Plaza’s pregnancy news was announced more than a year after her estranged husband, Jeff Baena, died by suicide at the age of 47. The couple tied the knot in 2021 after 10 years of dating, but were separated at the time of his death. Speaking with her former “Parks and Recreation” costar Amy Poehler on the podcast “Good Hang” in August 2025, Plaza discussed how she was dealing with the grief from Baena’s death. “Overall, I’m here, and I’m functioning,” Plaza told Poehler. “I feel really grateful to be moving through the world. I think I’m okay, but it’s like a daily struggle, obviously.” Although Abbott has not publicly spoken about the pregnancy, a source told People that he and Plaza “feel very blessed.” “It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year,” the source added.
