On April 14, Reuters reported that The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) has decided to lay off employees as part of a plan to streamline its operations. The decision was announced by the company’s new chief executive, Josh D’Amaro, in an email to employees. Around 1,000 jobs will be cut, according to a person familiar with the matter. The layoffs will mainly affect the marketing group, which was reorganized in January, along with other areas like the company’s studio and television business, ESPN, products and technology, and certain corporate functions.
