The artist stepped away from performing following his normal pressure hydrocephalus diagnosis last year
Billy Joel performs at Allegiant Stadium on November 09, 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Billy Joel doesn’t want anyone fretting too much over his health. The artist stepped away from performing last year after being diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus, a brain disorder caused by an excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain’s ventricles. Still, he doesn’t think it’s a big deal.
“I know people are worried about me because they read that I have a brain disorder, which sounds a lot worse than it actually is,†Joel recently shared on SiriusXM while taking calls from fans. “I’m okay. My balance isn’t that good. Lost a little bit of my hearing, but that may have to do with my age, too, and the rock and roll life and the loud volume probably didn’t help. But I’m fine. I want people to not have to worry about me. I’m okay.â€
After initially refusing surgical intervention, Joel had a shunt implanted to alleviate some effects of the disorder. The procedure has helped to improve his memory, balance, and overall function, he shared earlier this month.
Joel still isn’t sure when he will return to the stage — beyond the surprise appearance he made with a cover band earlier this year — but this absence of performances has been referred to as a “recovery period†in recent statements from his team. “This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision, and balance,†his team said last year. “Under his doctor’s instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing.â€
For his part, at 77 years old, Joel can’t entirely tell which health hiccups are a result of his age versus the disorder. “They don’t want me to stress too much,†Joel said about his medical team. He doesn’t want anyone else stressing too much, either.
Harry Waters and Roger Waters, 2008.
Former Pink Floyd singer-songwriter Roger Waters has worked with his son, Harry, to develop a new touring show called “Legacy — A Pink Floyd Show†that will be performed by the Harry Waters Band. The group will exclusively play music from the Pink Floyd albums The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall. Roger’s team worked on visuals for the tour that include ones he created while in Pink Floyd along with new images inspired by the repertoire.
The tour will launch in February with dates booked in more than 100 cities in North America and Europe. Tickets for the North American gigs go on sale Friday and full details are on the Roger Waters Legacy website.
“These songs have meant so much to so many people for so many years, and I’m excited for audiences to come together and experience them live again,†Roger said in a statement. “Harry has assembled a terrific band, and I can’t wait for fans around the world to see the special show we’ve created together.â€
In addition to Harry, who will sing and play organ, the band features his longtime collaborator, drummer Graham Broad, who helped conceive the two-hour show’s set list with him. “We are going to authentically recreate the albums as close to note-for-note as we possibly can,†he said. More than 3,000 singers auditioned to be the lead vocalist for the group. Waters revealed Tuesday that the gig went to Clifton David Broadbridge, a Canadian who now lives in Nashville. He will lead the 10-person ensemble.
“I fell in love with the music immediately,†Harry said. “It really had an impact on me, irrespective of any bias because it was Dad’s music. I still love it deeply to this day. Collaborating with Dad on this new production is such an honor, and I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to bring this music to fans old and new, around the world.â€
Harry’s own legacy with his dad’s music dates back at least to when Pink Floyd recorded his voice on The Wall’s “Goodbye Blue Sky.†He later spent more than 15 years playing keyboards and organ in his father’s solo band. Although Harry told Rolling Stone, “I was fired†from Roger’s band, along with several other musicians, he nevertheless remained committed to performing Pink Floyd’s music. He performed the band’s Animals album live with Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade and Sean Lennon in 2023 and performed with the tribute group, Brit Floyd.

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky on January 18, 2026 in New York City.
The woman accused of firing 20 rounds from an AR-15-style rifle at Rihanna’s Los Angeles home, allegedly striking an exterior wall of a nursery and the windshield of an Airstream trailer occupied by the singer and her partner, A$AP Rocky, has been found competent to stand trial.
Ivanna Ortiz, 36, appeared in court Tuesday wearing a yellow jail uniform and handcuffs as Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Maria Cavalluzzi informed the parties she had received a Sept. 23, 2026, report from Dr. Phani Tumu. Deputy District Attorney Alexander Bott and Deputy Public Defender Derek Dillman said they did not contest its findings.
“Based on the evidence, the court finds the defendant is presently competent to stand trial,†Judge Cavalluzzi said as Ortiz looked on and appeared to be smiling at times. “Criminal proceedings are reinstated.â€
When the judge said she would transfer the case back to a downtown Los Angeles courtroom that handles felony probable-cause hearings, Bott asked instead that the parties be ordered to appear before the supervising judge of criminal operations.
“Why are we doing this?†Judge Cavalluzzi asked.
“I can’t say, due to the nature of the proceedings, but they will be informed tomorrow,†Bott replied.
The supervising judge’s department is sometimes used as an initial stop for cases involving grand jury indictments. Grand jury proceedings are secret, but if an indictment is returned, it’s generally unsealed when prosecutors bring the defendant into court for arraignment. It was not immediately clear whether Ortiz was expected to face such a proceeding Wednesday.
Before she was referred to mental health court for an evaluation, Ortiz pleaded not guilty to one count of attempted murder, 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling. Prosecutors say she drove to Rihanna’s home on March 8 and fired the rounds while the property was occupied by the famous couple, their three young children, and Rihanna’s mother.
According to a police report obtained by Rolling Stone, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, whose legal name is Rakim Mayers, were inside the Airstream trailer parked outside the home when Rihanna heard “approximately ten loud sounds like something banging on metal.†She opened the curtains and “observed bullet holes in the windshield directly in front of where she had been standing,†then “grabbed Rakim out of bed, told him they were being shot at, and pushed both of them to the ground,†the report said.
“They shooting at us,†Rihanna warned as she pulled Mayers to the floor, the report said. The couple then ran into the garage and moved quickly to secure their children and staff, police said.
At an earlier hearing, Bott called the incident “an extremely dangerous deliberate shooting in occupied homes.†He said the gunfire lasted several seconds and could have been deadly. “This was calculated conduct,†Bott previously told the court. “She brought a loaded rifle, ammunition, and even a disguise in the form of a wig, which demonstrates planning.â€
Bott said Ortiz showed “a willingness to use a high-powered rifle in a residential neighborhood, putting numerous lives at risk.†He argued that the shooting “could easily have resulted in multiple homicides.â€
Witnesses to the March 8 shooting reported seeing a white Tesla Model 3 with a paper license plate fleeing the area. A police helicopter quickly located the vehicle, leading to Ortiz’s arrest. Investigators later found six bullet holes in the vehicle gate at Rihanna’s home and a seventh in a pedestrian gate, according to court documents obtained by Rolling Stone. Inside the property, police found three bullet holes in a wooden fence obscured by tall hedges.
Before the shooting, Ortiz posted erratically on social media, addressing and tagging Rihanna directly. “Listen, Rihanna. When you die, God is taking me to my future. You want to kill me. Shut the fuck up,†she said in a YouTube video titled “Praying Woman’s Journal, Day 39,†posted on Jan. 4, 2026.
Ortiz worked as a licensed speech pathologist in California before the alleged attack. In a filing obtained by Rolling Stone, an executive officer with the state’s Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology asked the court to bar Ortiz from practicing while the criminal case is pending, including through sentencing and any appeal. A different judge granted the request.
After postponing their scheduled fall tour earlier this mont, Toronto dance-rock duo Death From above 1979 has announced a new album titled Private Lives, out on January 29, 2027 on Last Gang/MNRK.
The band also shared the album's title track, with a video starring Danish actor Kim Bodnia. “The song ‘Private Lives’ is a declaration of privacy in an era of overexposure. We are compelled, often by one another, to share our most intimate moments and quietest thoughts. To what end? More often than not, to be part of a cheap consumer feedback loop,†the band says about the abrasive track.
The new record is the follow-up to 2021's Is 4 Lovers, and includes a collaboration with Brazilian-Canadian indie-electro outfit CSS on “Mystery.â€
The Canadian run of their North American tour begins in Waterloo on February 24, followed by Toronto's HISTORY on February 25 and London on February 26. Ottawa has been added for February 27, before the band heads to Montréal's Théâtre Beanfield on March 1 and Québec City on March 2.
The western leg includes Winnipeg, Red Deer, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver and Victoria between March 20 and 27.
Death From Above 1979 is also celebrating 25 years as a band. Their debut album, You're a Woman, I'm a Machine, was released in 2004 to much critical acclaim in the indie scene and gaining a devoted audience, thanks to songs like "Black History Month" and ''Romantic Rights''.
Céline Dion kicked off Paris Fashion Week with a bang, making a surprise appearance at L’Oréal's runway show beneath the Eiffel Tower.
The Québec superstar appeared at the end of the brand’s annual Le Défilé on Monday, September 28, stepping onto the runway in a dramatic black Schiaparelli gown before launching into her 2002 hit “I’m Alive.†She was joined by several of L’Oréal’s celebrity ambassadors, including Viola Davis, Eva Longoria, Simone Ashley and Aja Naomi King.
The performance came as Paris Fashion Week kicked off for the Spring/Summer 2027 season, and as Dion is already dominating the French capital with her long-awaited return to the stage.
Dion began a 26-show Paris residency on September 12, marking her first major concert run since stepping away from performing amid her battle with stiff-person syndrome. Sixteen shows are scheduled through October, with another 10 planned for May 2027.
In the weeks surrounding the residency, Dion has been photographed in looks from major fashion houses and has increasingly become a fixture of Paris’ celebrity and fashion scene. Dion has been Loréal Paris' brand ambassador since 2019, and the company is one of the presenting partners of her current residency.
Taylor Swift has always loved a story. It’s what has set her songwriting apart for 20 years now — and what she has used to maintain her almighty superstar status. Both in her work and in the presentation of it, Swift has woven strong narratives of heartbreak, success, redemption, torture, and glory where all of the pieces fall into place and it’s easy to root for her.
With her latest album, The Life of the Showgirl, Swift presented a sequined tale of triumph. Finally, finally, the girl who spent her whole life trying to put the feeling of love into words had changed the prophecy by getting engaged (and now married) to Travis Kelce. Professionally, Swift was at her peak, too. She’d just bought back her masters with the earnings from her historic Eras Tour, an all-encompassing career feat that inspired the project.
But there’s no debating that the musician’s 12th album was her most polarizing yet (yes, even more than the 2017 LP, Reputation). Some critics and fans alike didn’t appreciate the execution of the “showgirl†idea sonically or thematically. But hate it or love it, Showgirl was the perfect way for Swift to revel in her success — and set the stage for her next show-stopping move.
That’s why it’s so confusing that the expert storyteller decided the show wasn’t over when she released The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore with four bonus tracks. One of the strongest elements of the original album was that Swift delivered a tight 12, and only 12, songs. “There’s not a 13th, there’s not other ones coming,†she said last year. “Every single song is on this album for hundreds of reasons, you know, and you couldn’t take one out and it’d be the same album. You couldn’t add one. It’s just right.â€
Now, there is suddenly more to the story with the addition of “Patient Zero,†“Cleveland!†“Pink Clouding,†and “Babylon.†Unfortunately, as many fans have pointed out, none of the songs add to the narrative set forth in Showgirl.
Swift said she wrote the bonus tracks last year following the success of the album. “We just wanted to reflect and take in how grateful we were for the moment we were in,†she said, referring to the project’s collaborators, Max Martin and Shellback. That moment found Swift newly engaged, yet her lead single back, “Patient Zero,†looks back at a past relationship. “Pink Clouding†also reflects on a former flame, but without the regretful yearning that made “Ruin the Friendship†a standout. Meanwhile, “Cleveland!†takes the gushing over-the-heels joy from “Honey†and “Wood†and adds an almost spiteful twist. And then there is the new curtain-closer, “Babylon†where Swift hands out more pearls of wisdom over an acoustic cut that would fit better on Folklore or Evermore. In fact, all four songs sound like they were plucked from previous albums like Midnights or The Tortured Poets Department. With these four tracks, she has not only confused the story of Showgirl, she’s also muddled that of Taylor Swift™.
Swift is a known mastermind, who has planned her next career move years in advance, and she’s been celebrated for her expert marketing power moves. But where does the showgirl go from here? The Encore has unleashed more questions about Swift’s next chapter rather than offer a clear path forward.
On Sunday, Swift premiered the cinematic music video for “Patient Zero†at the 2026 MTV VMAs. It’s a chilling thriller, and one of her most impressive visuals to date. Was that the point of it all, to highlight her full-throttle pivot to film? We know that the musician has a directorial debut on the way with Searchlight Pictures. Maybe she finally found the time to finish it, and that’s why she worked on the Toy Story 5 soundtrack.
The Encore could also just be a way for Swift to get her 12th album back into the conversation, just in time for the first round of voting for the 2027 Grammys. One would expect the singer-songwriter to submit the project for all of the major categories, including the coveted Album of the Year and Song of the Year. It’s unclear whether Swift will submit both “The Fate of Ophelia,†which became Swift’s longest-running Number One song atop the Billboard Hot and her new shining single “I Knew It, I Knew You†for Song of the Year — the songwriting-focused Grammy she has yet to win.
Swift has spent the last six months riding on the high of “I Knew It, I Knew You.†The song dominated on country radio — and led the musician to drop a ton of Easter eggs hinting at her big return to the genre. She could honor her songwriting legacy with a country music return timed to the 20th anniversary of her debut in October. Now that would be a great story.
