Ukraine's drone interceptors in high demand in the Middle East

In recent days, Iran has fired a number of Shahed drones across the Middle East - and some air defences in the region have struggled to cope. Ukraine has spent the last four years inventing cheap but effective ways of defending their skies from similar Russian strikes, and now some countries have come knocking on their door to ask for help. The BBC's Diplomatic Correspondent, James Landale, is in Ukraine and has been to see the latest anti-drone technology the country has to offer. During a White House event with the Inter Miami CF soccer team, the US president said the island was “ready to fall”. The BBC's Ione Wells reports from the country and speaks to recently freed opposition politicians about the government's future and relations with the US. Footage verified by the BBC and news agencies shows large explosions in Iran following US and Israel strikes. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed a drone struck a parking lot adjacent to the US consulate building in Dubai. The US president criticised the Spanish government after it blocked the US from using its bases during the attack on Iran. President Donald Trump criticised Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the UK's initial response to US-Israeli strikes on Iran. The secretary of state said the US 'would not deliberately target a school' and directed further questions to the defence department. A fast-moving day saw the conflict widen in the region, with strikes being traded between opposing sides. BBC's Sarah Smith was inside the room as the US president mostly stayed on script while speaking at a White House event. It is Trump's first public comments since the operation began. Iran has targeted the US Navy base in Bahrain, highlighting gaps in air defences, which could worry Washington and its allies in the region. US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth offered few details about the operation, leaving questions unanswered about the scope or duration. The US says six of its F-15 jets were "mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defenses", with all crew in a stable condition.
